Three friends from Poland in Patras

“The experience of living in a Mediterranean country, the hearty hospitality and the new friends we made is what we will cherish from our visit”
With these words, our three Polish friends, Stephanie, Beata and Ella, members of the environmental organization SPOLECZNY INSTYTUT EKOLOGICZNY (Social-Ecological Institute), bid us farewell on Saturday, June 22, before leaving for their hometown Warsaw, capital of Poland.
The three ladies visited Patras for the european program Ecosynergy 50+, jointly held by their organization and the Ecological Movement of Patras (OIKIPA), and aimed towards volunteer exchange in environmental proceedings and gaining insight into the culture and life of each other’s town.
Main focus of their voluntary employment was the recycling campaign organized by the Municipality of Patras, where they offered their services by preparing and delivering material about recycling to Mpegoulaki, the section of Patras OIKIPA was responsible for supplying. They also worked in the municipal apparel storage.
They enthusiastically took part in an event organized by 14 other environmental organizations and held at the Rion beach, about plastic waste reduction in the seas.
They also escorted the guards of the National Park of Kotychi-Strofylia in their patrols, and along with members of OIKIPA they visited the archaeological sites of Vounteni, Teichos Dymaion and Olympia. Of course they did not omit to become acquainted with Patras’ cultural life.
They gave much and they gained much, always in close cooperation and friendly company with the members of OIKIPA, thus justifying the selection of the two organizations in a project whose ultimate result is building tighter bonds between European peoples.
